A little bit about me
Luis M. Romero-Rodriguez, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor (Tenured-Track) of Strategic Communication in the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, Spain). Currently, He founded and directs the Master’s Degree (M.A.) in Health Communication and teaches in the Ph.D. program in Social and Legal Sciences. He is also a guest/visiting professor in several graduate programs at the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (Ecuador), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), and the Nebrija University (Spain), being an external collaborator of their Ph.D. program in Digital Communication and Media.
Education
Postdoctoral fellowship en el Tecnológico de Monterrey (México). Ph.D. in Communication from the universities of Huelva, Seville, Malaga, and Cadiz (2014), extraordinary award of Doctorate from the University of Huelva (2015), and Master in Social Communication from the University of Almeria (Spain, 2010-2011). I have postgraduate degrees in Law and International Politics from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (2007-2009) and in University Teaching from the Universidad Nueva Esparta (Venezuela, 2007). I have a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication (with a minor in Corporate Communications) and a degree in Law from Universidad Santa María (Venezuela, 2000-2007).
Publications
Romero-Rodriguez has published more than 100 articles in refereed journals, such as Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, Journal of Management Development, Corporate Communications, Media and Communications, Management Decision, Corporate Governance, Journal for Cultural Research, Media History, Journalism Practice, and as book chapters. He is also the author/editor of two handbooks on PR and Corporate Communications: “Introduction to PR” and “Corporate Communication Management”.
Teaching experience
Romero-Rodriguez has 16 years of experience as a professor in undergraduate and graduate programs, having been a professor at Universidad Santa María (Venezuela), Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Venezuela), Universidad San Martín de Porres (Peru), Universidad Santiago de Cali (Colombia), Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Ecuador), Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (Ecuador), Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi (Ecuador), Universidad Isabel I (Spain), Universidad Internacional de La Rioja (Spain), Universidad Nebrija (Spain), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico), CETYS Universidad (Mexico), Universidad de Cádiz (Spain), Universidad Científica del Sur (Peru), and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. In terms of academic management, between 2007 and 2010, He was the General Director of Extension and Community Services at Universidad Santa María (Venezuela).
International conferences and research networks
Romero-Rodriguez has participated as a keynote speaker in more than fifty international conferences and meetings (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Kenya, Finland, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, and Venezuela). Also, he has been a researcher in a dozen R&D projects in Spain, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, including international and European projects. At the same time, he belongs to networks and research groups such as the Agora Group (PAI-HUM-648) of the University of Huelva, the Euro-American Interuniversity Research Network on Media Competences for Citizenship (ALFAMED), the Ibero-American Association for Teaching Innovation (IDI), and the International Network on Research Education (RISEI).
International stays
Between 2018 and 2019, Romero-Rodriguez was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Nuevo León, Mexico). Between 2015 and 2016, he completed two international teaching and research stays at Universidad Santiago de Cali (Colombia) and Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Ecuador). Before completing his Ph.D. (2013), he did a one-year research and teaching stay at Universidad San Martín de Porres (Peru).
Scientific journals
Regarding scientific journals, from 2016 to 2023, he was associate editor of Comunicar Journal (JCR Q1 and Scopus Q1). Between 2016 and 2020, he was editor-in-chief of Retos Journal (Emerging Sources Citation Index, Scopus Q3, and SciELO).
From 2019 to the present, he has been associate editor of Anàlisi Journal (Scopus Q1 and Emerging Sources Citation Index) and a member of the scientific committee of Media and Communication (JCR Q2 and Scopus Q1), Revista Latina de Comunicación Social (Scopus Q1 and Emerging Sources Citation Index), Index.Comunicación (Scopus Q1 and Emerging Sources Citation Index) and Editor-in-Chief of the Communication Collection of Editorial Sindéresis (Pos. 61st SPI ICEE General 48).
